Butterfly Dreams

Did they not make enough money with the first NARUTO Shippuuden movie, which surprisingly had no Sasuke flashbacks or parallels? Nothing really sells unless Sasuke is around, ka? Really have to push the NaruSasu in order to shy away from the Uchihacest after Itachi suddenly became a saint in the manga? With the second Shippuuden movie set to release in August, I wonder how far the series will reach by then, especially with all the breaks they’re having, this past week included. To have the two of them meet all of a sudden will require a decent basis, and going by the brief plotline on the website, it’s rather conflicting.

I knew there would be a one-hour special for when we truly caught up to the fast-forward in the one-hour special that begun the Time Skip season of NARUTO, but to be fair all the running around from the past episode or two was shown in the first episode. In any case, the animation quality is worse than during the 1st episode, but some of the art that was changed or cut out due to impending spoilers (Sakura never grabbed onto Sai in the 1st episode, nor did she speak to him, etc.) was done nicely (like Sakura’s full facial expression). Some flashbacks were well placed and others were questionable, as if we needed more fuel for NaruSasuNaru hints. I even got SaiNaru vibes, because that “I think he’ll be able to make me feel again” line was absoultely cheesy.

Oh god, I don’t know what to laugh more about– the constipated look Yamato had, the cheesy music at the height of Naruto’s little speech, or the extra after the episode. To be fair, I actually really liked Naruto’s speech, and I LOL’ed so hard at the scene with Naruto sitting on the toilet in the extra, with that angel chorus in the background xDDDD There’s no saving that look, though– that’s just plain bad art.

I can also go on and on about the pointless flashbacks, and there honestly has to be a rule about using a particular flashback every other freaking week, or the way they slowed things down (Kabuto took forever to get there, ne?), but I do that every week. Oh, damn, I did it again here. Ah, well. Me saying it constantly is as old as them doing it every week. The Tsubasa OVAs go through an entire volume in a single episode for crying out loud.
