kure-nai - First Episode

Published by Whispered.Hope at 1:11 PM under 2008 Spring Season | 442 views

I was completely lost for the first half of the episode. I didn’t know what was going on or why I was watching it, but after Shintaro and Murasaki met, I really liked the chemistry between them. Murasaki’s an adorable girl for being rich and Shintaro has that pathetic quality that just makes me want to hug him. When I first read the premise I thought Benika was the rich girl he was supposed to protect, and Murasaki was his sister, but it turned out nicely this way, too. Now I’m wondering what kind of organizatin Benika runs, what connection she has to Murasaki, and how Shintaro is a part of it at his age. By the brief flashback, I’m guessing Benika took him in when he was small. But isn’t he too young to be mediating dangerous situations like that? Benika said something about obtaining a new body, which could mean he’s not human?

And what are the roles of the other women that surround him? His best friend, the girl with the laptop whose name escapes me, seems to know of his job with Benika. Is she a part of the organization as well or is she just so used to him telling her everything that she’s not freaking out that her friend’s doing all that stuff? That other female student seems to like him, but I don’t think she’s aware of what Shintaro does. Will she find out and be thrown into the crossfire?

And then there’s the two who live in his apartment building. LOL @ the story about the skull. I thought that the skull was a bit too small to be human, but I would’ve apologized like Shintaro did for who am I to judge a story like that? xD The two of them were listening in when Benika came over, and with Yayoi being super ninja about everything, you’d think she would’ve stopped them. Are they also in on everything, or do they work for the father of Murasaki? More information is needed on the Kohouin family part, but Murasaki’s father seemed like an okay guy before he was told to leave Murasaki’s mother and be exiled or something. Now he’s a guy who brings my feminist side out, damn women hater.

The OP and ED songs were okay, but I didn’t like the animation too much, especially the borning ED sequence. I’ll be watching the next episode for more Shintaro and Murasaki chem.

I like the art, actually. It’s got this wonderfully earthy quality to it.
