CODE GEASS: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 - Turn 1

I could go all “OMG, it’s CODE GEASS!@@$!”, but I think that’s been done enough the first day or two since it aired on Sunday, so I’ll just assume you all know my excitement and move on. I guess it should’ve been obvious that with a one year timeskip, Lelouch’s initial amnesia is a given, but it still took me a while to actually get it. It was like I was watching an alternate universe, because it’s a complete mystery to me (and I suppose you guys as well) as to how something like that can happen after the cliffhanger end of season one. It reminded me a lot of the period of when Light from DEATH NOTE lost his memory and was normal again. Granted, Lelouch was restless, but you have to wonder if he was better off that way, though someone (whoever gave him amnesia) was clearly trying to contain and control him by doing so.

And then C.C., like the evil Note, corrupts my Lelouch again after his internal wanting of power to change the world and we’re off to find out what the hell happened in that one year that’s passed. Sorry all C.C. lovers, but I hate that woman with a passion, whether or not she saved Lelouch, both in giving in Geass in season one and reawakening it in season two. Speaking of which, there are numerous amounts of parallel’s between the first episode of both seasons. Some people that I’ve talked to felt that it was uncreative to practically reuse the entire first episode of the first season, but I thought it was done nicely. What better, ironic way to start the new season than by having the same end result through similar events?

I’m not even going to try to comprehend how everyone seems to have gotten amnesia, for that’s way too big for me to try and theorize. Instead, let’s move to the topic of Rollo and Nunnally. There is no way Rollo’s Lelouch’s full-blood relative, for Nunnally is his one and only sibling. I can buy half-sibling, for God knows his father has been sleeping around with a country-worth of women and has children from each sexual escapade. The question is why he’s there, and for who he sides with. As for Nunnally, it’s not a question of whether she’s alive, for she is– the scans of her new R2 outfit is proof enough of that for me. It’s more the question of where she is, and what she’s doing. V.V. seemed to be keeping her for her father, and I believe she may be of some actual importance, if not just to be the chip to hold over Lelouch’s head.

And then there’s Suzaku and his sudden inclusion into the Knights of Round, or whatever the heck they’re calling the King’s personal Knights. Needless to say, I think he gave up on trying to change the world from the inside, and not only because of Euphie’s death. I have a hunch that he’s being controlled by the Geass that the King apparently has (as shown from the OP sequence) in order to get rid of, or being to him, Lelouch, if he knows his son is Zero. Of course, that’s assuming it’s possible to be Geassed by two different people. Meh, either way, he still bothers me, but I hope for a decent conclusion to his and Lelouch’s friendship.

As for the OP and ED, I’m not used to them yet. It’s nice to know that ORANGE RANGE can do different kinds of music, but I’m not immediately into it as I was for *~Asterisk~  from BLEACH or Ikenai Taiyou from the Live Action of HanaKimi. The animation side was amazing, showing us a great glimpse of what’s the come, as well as the fantastic art of CLAMP. Big plus that it’s being aired in extreme HD.

And apparently, Pizza Hut still supports the Rebellion. If Pizza Hut’s pizza weren’t so expensive, I might’ve actually fallen prey to the commercializing.

The only reason I dislike C.C. is because she looks so similar to Amber from Darker than Black. And every time a Hei/Amber supporter told me (a Hei/Havoc supporter FUCK YEAH) that Havoc was a fugly bitch it hurt me inside. XD I’ll admit that Havoc wasn’t pretty compared to Amber but Amber wasn’t pretty, either. At least to me. /random angst

But erm, I don’t like her with Lelouch. I don’t like Lelouch with anybody, actually. I’ve always pictured him as a lone-hero type. And veering even more off-course - I always lol when I hear his voice. It’s bizarrely deep for someone so thin.

I love how this episode is basically HEY GUYS I’VE GOT AMNESIA HOW ABOUT YOU? plus LOL HOW’D I GET A BROTHER? But I do like Rollo, regardless of what he’s up to. He looks harmless. XD

Wow, that’s an interesting theory about Suzaku being controlled by the Geass. It certainly would explain what appears to be a stark change in personality and philosophy. Maybe, just maybe, my hate of Suzaku would subside just a teensy, weensy bit if that happened to be true.

Personally, I think the whole amnesia plot tool is waaay over used. I’m not saying it’s terrible used here, but just, really, there needs to be a different way to convey the passing of a long period of time.

I really enjoyed the parallels drawn to the first episode. In particular, the chess one, but with Lelouch being white instead of black.

Yeah, I’m not a big fan of C.C.’s either. My brother, I just found out though, is a complete, raving, diehard fanboy of her’s. Why, I really cannot fathom. And for pete’s sake, PLEASE let there be some decent fanart that DOESN’T involve C.C. and pizza!

Ee: Haha, sure, that’s a good enough reason to hate C.C. xDD More the merrier! She just really bugs me– her personality, her actions, everything. Ugh. Lelouch is completely insane around her. Needless to say, I will never support her with Lelouch. Lelouch and Shirley seemed okay, for I really liked that Lelouch was genuinely sad that he had to use Geass on her. And looks can be deceiving! But Rollo’s been cool so far.

Julia: Why thank you ^^ It might excuse him from some of his actions this season, but he made enough of a mess last season to still be annoying to me xP Yes, the chess was nice. I wonder if him playing white is a sign of a victory for him?

It mostly is just fanboys drooling over C.C., ne? I don’t understand it, either. Was it the white skin-tight suit last season, coupled with her complete whoring with pizza? I don’t know. Just pisses me off more xD

Theres only one thing I’ve been wondering, what happened when that gunshot fired in the end of last seasons ep. They do explain how the situation progressed towards what we have now but did anyone get shot? Maybe they will explain it in time.

Took me quite a while to get into geass, i thought it was just gonna be another one of those series that’s jam packed with bishonens and about as much plot as a teaspoon.
Despite how it looks on the outside, it’s awesome! A lot of inspiration from Death Note though, Lelouch is practically the twin brother of light, right down to the amnesia now haha. Although i think lelouch isn’t as consumed as light is…not yet anyway.
