BLASSREITER - Episode 1

Published by Whispered.Hope at 10:57 PM under 2008 Spring Season | 1,274 views

Am I on a GONZO fix or what right now. I wasn’t as immediately hooked onto BLASSREITER as I was The Tower of Druaga, but by the end I was left feeling willing enough to try out the second episode. Like Dragonaut, CG was used for all the fast-moving scenes and fights, which was okay and all, but it left me disappointed with the regular animation, since I didn’t like it at all. If I could just have a lesbian moment for one second: the naked woman at the beginning of the episode wasn’t even hot, IMO. Nor the blonde + green haired woman. I mean seriously, what is with that hair colour combination? Maybe it’s because I’m a girl, I dunno, but it wasn’t working for me. None of the guys were hot, either– well, no, the mysterious guy with the odd design coming down his right eye was nice. So he and Amanda were the only nice looking people. Okay, now to move on from the increasingly shallow talk of animation and character design.

What really caught my attention was the twist at the end of the episode. Maybe it’s not a twist because I was something I was assuming personally, but it got me interested. I got a D.Gray-man feeling when I thought Beatrice was the one behind all the Demoniac being created (like Earl), and that she was trying to make Gerd into one as well with that pill (red or blue? Sorry, Matrix moment) by feeding into his desire to walk/be useful again (like how Akuma are created). Or maybe it’s more like Zombie-Loan– Demonic hunting Demonic like Zombie hunting Zombie.

But then it turned out Gerd was the one who saved Amanda when the mission failed, making me think Beatrice is actually making Demonic fighters. I thought my mysterious hot guy was the only one, assuming he was the one who appeared at the beginning of the episode, but now that Beatrice may not be the bad guy I’m second-guessing myself. A little early to be making theories but it just happened.

I got mixed up on the time frame, because that whole talk Gerd and Hermann were having at the hospital. I thought that the incident at the beginnng of the episode happened years ago, but it actually happened a month or so ago. The flashback and the reminicing screwed me up. Of course, I’m left with a lot of questions, like how did Hermann join this XAT force to fight Deomnics, who Beatrice and my mystery man really is and the like, and it has me interested to watch the next episode. I didn’t feel any PERSONA vibe like I did with the trailer. No OP sequence was shown, but I loved the ED song and animation.

Oh, and apparently, all GONZO works this season (or at least BLASSREITER and Tower of Druaga) are being aired on Crunchyroll and YouTube with subtitles and everything from GONZO themselves. I’m not sure if that’s true, for that’s only what I hear, but that’s really interesting.

Well, no one’s hot. Which isn’t really a problem for me (I can live with it) but there’s no discernible plot, or at least one that would interest me. Also, “Blassreiter”? lololololol

I think I’ll give this a few more episodes before I decide whether I’m going to drop it. I’ve heard only negative reviews about this one so I’m not sure what I feel about it right now. I need a good spring show I can watch along with Persona (speaking of Persona? I need 6 glasses of wine, NOW) and all I’ve got now it Nabari no Ou. Which is too ninja-y for my liking but the teacher is married so I think ninja!teacher/his wife is my new spring OTP. XD

Sorry for going so offtopic. DX I’m looking forward to all the posts about the shows you’ll blog this season.

zaeris: Haha, at least I don’t. I really only use ANN to see what seiyuu is in what. But thanks for that. At least someone’s informed.

Ee: LOL, I guess I was really trying to find something decent, because the small hold I have on the story is the only thing going for this series for me.

I have to catch up to PERSONA now after that comment xD And Nabari no Ou. -noddles-

I haven’t decided to blog any yet, but first impressions I’ll do ^^

    lololol ! D.grey man vibes ^_^

I’m not especially into mystery or action series but this seems interesting ^_^ I have yet to watch the first episode though ^_^

animation looks ok, soundtrack i have yet to decide, theme still looks persona-ish to me although plot-wise its totally different.

Looking into this right now ^_^

Also on a side side note, if your looking for really good spring shows, my current spring watch list would look like:

    1. Vampire Night - Vampires, Mystery, Drama, Action, Interesting… ^_^
    2. Soul Eater - Shinigami Action I’m a sucker for gurren lagann animation nice opening theme ^_^

    3. Kure-nai - Seirei no Moribito !! ^_^ Mystery, a bit of action maybe, plenty of Aishiteruze Babe scenes !! its ok for me ^_^ nice opening and ending song too ^_^
    4. The Tower of Druaga - Very funny ep1 although still need to watch ep2 if this would become interesting ^_^
    5. Itazura no Kiss - Soundtrack not good, Animation not good, Predictable plot, Although i still love it story-wise so i guess its a decent watch ^_^

series i have watched which i didn’t like:

    1. toLoveRU - Seems like comedy, love, school, and maybe harem and looks ok but is too ecchi to my liking ^_^ (ecchi op ecchi ed ecchi ep1 = no way am i watching this)

    series i have not tried:

    1. Special A - I’m hearing good things about this and I’m interested so I guess its a definite must watch ^_^

    2. kanokon - DEFINITELY ecchi harem although i’m not sure if this series would be able to beat toLoveRU with ecchi level. ^_^

    3. Nabarai no Ou - judging from what I’ve heard I guess this looks decent so I’ll try watching ep1.
