Rental Magica - Episode 19 + 20
We learn a lot about Mikan during this two-episode arc. I don’t get where she sees herself as a substitute, though, for her grandmother not only sees her magical powers as weak, but also wants to use her as a sacrifice because of it. Neither really suggests she’s anyone’s substitute, though I might still be missing something in her past. It’s either that for Mikan’s got the word substitude defined alittle differently in her mind. I think they were trying to make her grandmother a bit of a nice person by thinking she was doing Mikan a favour by using her as a sacrifice, for if she lived through it she’d be striped of what little magic she has and thus she could live a happy life not being a burden to anyone, but it just made her more bitchy to me.
This arc is also the first time Itsuki decided to work with his eye, not against it, but either way I don’t really see how it helps things. His eye still bleeds using it. Perhaps he gets to keep his sanity a while longer? Or the ability to use it without taking off the patch? In any case, I’ll wait for a more impressionable scene with the two of them working together, for the fight wasn’t anything special despite that step forward.
