Nodame Cantabile in Europe - Special Lesson 2

Aa, I totally forgot about Kuroki~~! I thought the guy at the end of the first episode looked familiar, and I knew he’d play a factor with Nodame, and it makes a lot of sense that it was him xDD; For those who have as bad a memory as me, Kuroki was that oboe player who fell in love with Nodame’s ‘cooking’ and wife-like personality in the first season <3 I never knew he was going to Europe, too, so I never figured it could be him -lame excuse- In any case, nothing really happened between them romantically, though it did make Chiaki jealous at the absolutely worst time, when Chiaki was finally gonna suck it up and say something to Nodame regarding his feelings.
Kuroki’s having a really hard time in Europe, though, and even though he didn’t get together with Nodame, I hope he can find some kind of happiness (in future seasons? -nudges creators-). It seems like they’re trying to push Kuroki and Tanya, which I don’t actually mind. They don’t really seem to fit personality-wise, but the whole way their relationship is going to a typical road to romance: they start out hating each other, but slowly learn about each other and think the other’s not so bad. I’m actually really interested in Tanya’s story. When she said that going after guys is all she has left now, I felt really sympathetic towards her. I haven’t heard her play piano, and she can’t be as bad as she thinks she is if she got into the school she’s in, but if the only way she thinks she’s going to survive living is if she hooks up with some rich guy, something serious really must’ve happened to her.
In any case, as I figured, this episode was focused more on Nodame’s trials where music is concerned as the first was on Chiaki’s. I don’t blame the poor girl for struggling through theory– I’m not a fan of musical theory myself. It made her really start to question everything that she’s doing and why she’s doing it, especially when people like Frank and an elementary kid know more than she does. Although she’s still more or less doing it so she could be with Chiaki, I’m glad she at least takes some independence (beating on Chiaki FTW) and is ready and willing to delve into music, liking playing another recital, when Chiaki isn’t around.
Mine’s and Kiyora’s little tuff was also touched on. I was afraid there wasn’t going to be time with the way things were progressing. Kiyora was really high-strung about her competition, which she didn’t end up doing so well in. While it may be more for personal reasons, I like to believe it’s also because of Mine. Kiyora left him in order to do those competitions, and not doing well in them is like wasting their entire time apart. To see her cheer up after reading some of hundreds of mail Mine sent really made me feel better. If she ended up hating or breaking up with Mine I would’ve gone berserk on her ass.

Despite Chiaki buying Nodame a necklace and kissing her, I’m relunctant to believe those two are really together-together at the end of this. I was under the false pretense that they were together after that behind-hug at the end of the first season, so I dunno how much closer a kiss and a piece of jewerly will get them, even though both are a huge step forward. One of the reasons is because Chiaki’s really…unsure and insecure about everything. I don’t know if it’s because his parents split and that had emotional damage to him or what, but he’s heistant to admit he has feelings and commit to a long-term relationship. It’s not helping that he had a point when he said Nodame doesn’t really seem serious about being in love with him, for she does act like a run of the mill fangirl. It’d really hurt Chiaki if he gave into his feelings only to have Nodame leave when she falls out of that high pedestal phase.
But it seems like Chiaki chose the Hentai Forest end of the Game of Life, and if her actions after becoming needlessly jealous of Rui is any indication, Chiaki should feel more secure that she really cares for him. I would’ve figured that since she sticks around him despite his abusive nature, but whatever xP
I’d like to believe there’s enough of an opening for another season, especially when the manga has yet to finish yet. I’m getting curious about who the replacement conductor of Rising Star Orchestra is, for they’ve never shown his face. That, and Chiaki has yet to meet up with his childhood sensei, which is technically the entire point of the series. The battle is still on between the two conductors for Chiaki.
I’m a middle aged woman who loves all things Japanese and have watched Japanese progaming every weekend for years. On Saturday the programs have english sub-titles, but not on Sunday. Unfortunately Nodame Cantabile is not sub-titled and I suffered through the first season not really knowing what was going on (fortuately I found a web site that took each episode and explained them, but unfortuately I found it only after the season was over). Now season two (I guess) is beginning and again I’m in the dark. The bottom line is, can I get the series with english sub-titles, or should I start a crash course in Japanese. Thank you for your help.
It isn’t subbed? O_O; I thought it was. I know d-addicts put out softsubs, but if you’re not too familiar with it I believe SARS releases hardsubs of both seasons. In any case, I’d recommend learning Japanese on the side! Learning is fun, ne? xD;
very nice web site. My English is not so good, so I do not understandt it well, but it seems very good. Thanks
sughoiiii…sughoiii….NC wa sughoi dsu ne!
